Affected by the UIG data breach?

If you believe your information may have been compromised in this breach, it is important to take immediate action to protect yourself. Here are the steps you should follow:

  1. Enroll in credit monitoring services: Take advantage of the complimentary 24-month Experian IdentityWorks membership offered by UIG. Visit Experian IdentityWorks and use the activation code provided in your notification letter. Ensure you enroll by March 31, 2025.
  2. Monitor your financial accounts: Regularly review your bank statements, credit card transactions, and other financial accounts for any unauthorized activity.
  3. Request your free credit report: Under U.S. law, you are entitled to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus. Visit Annual Credit Report to access your reports and check for any suspicious activity.
  4. Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze:
    1. A fraud alert notifies creditors to take extra steps to verify your identity before extending credit. Contact any of the three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion—to place a fraud alert.
    2. A credit freeze restricts access to your credit report, making it harder for identity thieves to open accounts in your name. You can request a freeze through the credit bureaus’ websites:
      1. Equifax Credit Freeze
      2. Experian Credit Freeze
      3. TransUnion Credit Freeze
  1. Report suspected identity theft: If you notice unauthorized transactions or believe your identity has been stolen, file a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at IdentityTheft.gov.
  2. Stay vigilant: Be cautious of phishing attempts or unsolicited communications requesting personal information. Legitimate organizations will not ask for sensitive details via email or text.

If you have additional questions or need further assistance, you can contact UIG directly at 470 Forest Avenue, Portland, Maine 04101, or call their support line at 833-918-0879.
