If you were an undergraduate student enrolled at Saint Joseph's University after March 19, 2020, you may be eligible to claim compensation from a class action settlement.

Saint Joseph's University has agreed to pay $1,153,880 to settle a class action lawsuit for alleged breach of contract and unjust enrichment due to the transition to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who are the class members?

Class members are those who:

  • were enrolled as an undergraduate student at Saint Joseph's University after March 19, 2020.
  • were assessed tuition for the Spring 2020 semester.
  • were enrolled in at least one class that was meeting in person and on campus at the beginning of the Spring 2020 semester.

How much can class members get?

The settlement fund of $1,153,880 will be distributed among class members. The amount each class member receives will be calculated on a pro rata basis.

This means the distribution will depend on the total tuition assessed to the class members compared to the tuition assessed to each individual member, minus any financial aid, unpaid balances, or refunds already given for the Spring 2020 semester.

Class members do not need to take any action to receive their compensation. Payments will be sent automatically by first-class U.S. mail to the last known address on file with the University Registrar. Class members can also visit the Settlement Website to update their address, choose to receive payment via Venmo or PayPal, or have the payment applied to their SJU student account.
