If you owned or leased a Mitsubishi Lancer or Outlander on or before November 1, 2024, you might be eligible to claim up to $250 from a class action settlement.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors North America, Incorporated have agreed to pay $8,500,000 to settle a class action lawsuit related to alleged defects in ZF-TRW airbag control units. These defects could potentially cause airbag failure during a collision.

Who can file a claim?

To be part of the settlement, you must have owned or leased a Mitsubishi vehicle that was originally sold or leased in the United States or its territories on or before November 1, 2024.

Eligible vehicles:

  • 2013-2017 Mitsubishi Lancer
  • 2013-2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
  • 2013-2015 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
  • 2013-2016 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback
  • 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander

To verify if your vehicle is eligible, you can use the VIN lookup tool on the official settlement website. This tool will help you determine if your vehicle qualifies for the settlement.

How much can class members get?

Class members can receive up to $250 per vehicle.

The exact amount depends on the number of valid claims submitted and any court-awarded fees and costs. If multiple claims are submitted for the same vehicle, the original owner will receive 60% of the allocated funds, while the remaining 40% will be distributed among other claimants.

  • Original Owner: 60% of the allocated funds
  • Subsequent Owners: 40% distributed evenly

For example, if a vehicle is allocated $250 and both the original and a subsequent owner submit valid claims, the original owner would receive $150, and the subsequent owner would receive $100.

Is proof required to submit a claim?

Yes, claimants must provide documentation proving ownership or lease of the vehicle. Acceptable documents include a vehicle title, registration, purchase agreement, lease agreement, or insurance documentation.
