Medefil, Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging violations of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). The lawsuit claims that Medefil collected biometric identifiers and biometric information from employees and contractors without providing required written disclosures and obtaining written consent.
Who is eligible for a BIPA settlement payout?
You are a class member if you meet the following criteria:
- You were a Medefil, Inc. employee or contractor at any point between October 18, 2014, and March 5, 2025.
- You used a finger or hand-scan biometric timekeeping system while working at Medefil.
- You did not sign a written consent and release form before using the biometric timekeeping system.
How much is the class action payment?
Claimants will receive these benefits:
- Pro Rata Cash Payment: Class members can submit for a payment estimated at $296.78. Final amount will be determined by the number of valid claims filed.
- Dark Web Monitoring Services: Claimants will receive three years of dark web monitoring services provided by Experian.
How to claim a BIPA class action settlement payout
To receive a class action rebate, class members must submit a claim form by the deadline of June 3, 2025. You can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.
