On January 31, 2025, The Pension Specialists, an independent retirement plan administrator, discovered a data breach that has impacted 71,443 individuals across the United States.
This breach exposed sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, financial account details, driver's license numbers, and health insurance information.
The breach was initially detected after a network disruption occurred between February 18, 2024, and February 20, 2024, indicating unauthorized access to certain files.
The breach was reported to various state Attorney General offices, including Maine, Massachusetts, and Texas, with the number of affected individuals varying by state.
In Texas, 3,490 people were affected, while Maine and Massachusetts saw 41 and 172 individuals impacted, respectively.
In response to the breach, The Pension Specialists have since implemented enhanced security measures to prevent future breaches. Affected individuals have been notified via U.S. Mail, and the company is offering complimentary identity monitoring services through Kroll, a leader in consumer identity protection. These services include credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity theft restoration.
Given the nature of the breach, it is crucial for affected individuals to remain vigilant by regularly reviewing their account statements and credit reports. The company has provided detailed instructions on how to activate the identity monitoring services and encourages individuals to take advantage of these resources to protect their personal information.
