Steps to Take if You Are Affected

Given the nature of the data involved, it is crucial for affected individuals to take immediate action to protect themselves from potential identity theft and financial fraud:

  1. Place a Security Freeze on Your Credit Reports: This prevents credit, loans, and services from being approved in your name without your consent. Contact each of the three major credit bureaus to set this up:
    1. Equifax: Equifax Freeze
    2. Experian: Experian Freeze
    3. TransUnion: TransUnion Freeze
  1. Monitor Your Financial Accounts: Check your bank statements and monitor your accounts for any unauthorized transactions. Report any suspicious activity to your bank immediately.
  2. Consider Identity Theft Protection Services: Surety HR offers complimentary access to Experian IdentityWorks for 24 months. This service includes identity detection, credit monitoring, and identity restoration support. Enroll by August 30, 2024, using the provided activation code at Experian IdentityWorks.
  3. Report Identity Theft: If you suspect that your identity has been compromised, file a report with your local police and obtain a copy of the report. This can help you in clearing your name and credit history.
