Data Breach Disclosed at LA Financial Federal Credit Union

On June 10, 2024, LA Financial Federal Credit Union experienced a data breach involving unauthorized access to an employee email account. Immediate actions were taken to secure the email system and network, and third-party computer specialists were engaged to investigate the full scope of the incident.

While the investigation is ongoing, it has been determined that the compromised email account contained sensitive information.

The breach affected 15 individuals in Massachusetts and an undisclosed number of people in California.

The types of consumer information exposed include social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and financial account information.

In response to the data breach, LA Financial Federal Credit Union has offered affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring services through IDX for 12 to 24 months. This proactive measure is intended to help protect individuals from potential identity theft and fraud.

Additionally, the credit union has provided resources and guidance on steps individuals can take to protect their personal information.

If you believe you may be affected by this data breach, it is important to remain vigilant. Here are some recommended actions:

  1. Enroll in Credit Monitoring: Take advantage of the complimentary credit monitoring services offered by LA Financial Federal Credit Union through IDX. This service can help you detect any suspicious activity related to your credit.
  2. Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly review your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized transactions. Also, obtain your free credit reports from the three major credit bureaus—TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax—to check for any discrepancies.
  3. Place Fraud Alerts or Credit Freezes: Consider placing a fraud alert on your credit file, which will require creditors to verify your identity before issuing new credit. Alternatively, you can place a credit freeze to prevent new accounts from being opened in your name.
  4. Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice any signs of identity theft, report it immediately to the relevant financial institutions and law enforcement agencies.
