Between November 5 and November 11, 2024, Doctors Imaging Group, a physician-owned radiology practice in Florida, experienced a cyber security incident. According to the official Notice of Cyber Security Event posted by the company, unknown actors gained unauthorized access to the organization’s computer network. During this period, files were copied from the system. The breach was discovered after suspicious activity was detected, prompting an immediate investigation.
At this time, Doctors Imaging Group is still reviewing the affected files to determine the full scope of the breach and identify which individuals may be impacted. However, the company has confirmed that both employee and patient information was stored on the compromised systems.
For patients, the exposed data includes personally identifiable information (PII) such as name, address, and date of birth, as well as protected health information (PHI) like health insurance details and medical information. For employees, data stored in the company’s capacity as an employer may also be involved.
The precise number of affected individuals has not yet been disclosed, as the investigation is ongoing. The breach is considered severe due to the nature of the information accessed—particularly the combination of PII and PHI, which can be highly sensitive and valuable to malicious actors.
To help protect those affected, the company has outlined steps individuals can take, including monitoring account statements, explanation of benefits, and free credit reports for signs of suspicious activity. The notice details how to place a fraud alert or credit freeze with the major credit bureaus and provides contact information for each. Additionally, resources from the Federal Trade Commission are recommended for further education on identity theft and fraud prevention.
Given the sensitive nature of the data involved, it is especially important for affected individuals to remain vigilant. Reviewing credit reports, watching for unexplained medical bills, and reporting any suspicious activity to relevant institutions are all prudent steps.
