If you purchased certain pet food products from Mid America Pet Food, you may be eligible to claim monetary benefits from a class action settlement.
Mid America Pet Food has agreed to pay $5,500,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for allegedly marketing and selling pet food contaminated with Salmonella, which can cause illness or death in pets.
Who Can File a Claim?
To be eligible for a claim, you must be a resident of the United States who purchased one or more of the recalled Mid America Pet Food products. These recalls were announced on September 3, October 30, or November 9, 2023.

- Victor Super Premium Dog Food
- Wayne Feeds Dog Food
- Member’s Mark Dog Food
- Eagle Mountain Dog Pro Balance Dog Food
- Victor Super Premium Cat Food
- Wayne Feeds Cat Food
How Much Are Payouts?
- Pet Injury Claims:
- Fully Documented Pet Injury Claims are paid at 100% of approved documented losses, capped at $100,000 per claim.
- Claims documented solely by declaration are paid at $50 for pets that became ill and $100 for pets that died.
- Consumer Food Purchase Claims:
- Documented claims are paid at 100% of approved losses.
- Undocumented claims are paid at $20 per bag, up to two bags, capped at $40.
If the Net Settlement Fund is insufficient to cover all valid claims, payments will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. In other words, if the total valid claims exceed the available funds, each claim will be proportionally reduced based on the total amount of claims.
Proof Required
- Pet Injury Claims:
- Documentation includes invoices, receipts, canceled checks, veterinarian records, and other evidence of expenses or losses.
- Consumer Food Purchase Claims:
- Documentation includes receipts, invoices, shipping order forms, confirmation emails, and proof of payment.
How to Claim an Award
To claim an award, class members must complete a Claim Form by providing all requested information, enclose required documentation, sign and date the form, and submit it online when the portal goes live.
Payment Methods
Payments will be made via check or electronic transfer, depending on the claimant's preference.
$5.5 Million Settlement Fund
The settlement fund of $5,500,000 will cover payments to class members, class notice and settlement administration costs, attorneys’ fees, and service awards to Class Representatives.
- Class Counsel fees: Not to exceed $1,833,150
- Litigation expenses: Not to exceed $35,000

When is the Mid America Pet Food Settlement Payout Date?
Payments will be made after the Court grants final approval of the settlement and any appeals are resolved.
