If you submitted a claim in the Thomson Reuters Corp CLEAR $27.5 million class action settlement you may be receiving a payout.

If you lived in California at any time between December 3, 2016, and October 31, 2024, you were eligible to submit a claim for what was an estimated $19 to $48 payment from a class action settlement.

Thomson Reuters agreed to pay $27,500,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for allegedly making personal information about California residents available for sale through its CLEAR product without their consent. The lawsuit claimed that this practice violated the privacy rights of Californians.

Who is eligible for a CLEAR privacy payment?

The class was defined as follows:

• You resided in California at any point between December 3, 2016, and October 31, 2024, current and former residents are included.
• You were at least 18 years old during the period you lived in California.
• Your personal information was made available by Thomson Reuters through its CLEAR product.

How much is the class action settlement payout?

• Pro Rata Cash Payment: Each approved claimant received an equal payment originally estimated to be between $19 and $48. Final amount was determined by the number of valid claims submitted.

• Final Claim Payment: In April 2025 the settlement administrator began issuing payments in the amount of $156.09 to class members with approved claims.

To receive a settlement payment, class members were required to submit a claim form. The claim form could be submitted online or class members also had the option of, printing a PDF claim form to mail to the settlement administrator.

When is the Thomson Reuters Corp. CLEAR settlement payout date?

The court granted final approval to the CLEAR privacy settlement on February 21, 2025. In April 2025 the settlement administrator began issuing payments to valid claimants.

Why was there a class action lawsuit and settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged that Thomson Reuters made personal information about California residents available for sale through its CLEAR product without consent, violating their privacy rights.
