If you currently or previously owned or leased a model year 2019-2023 Volkswagen Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport vehicle in the United States or Puerto Rico, you may be eligible to claim reimbursement for repair expenses from a class action settlement.

Volkswagen Group of America has agreed to pay $1,950,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for alleged defects in the front door wiring harnesses of certain vehicles, which may not function properly.

Who can file a claim?

To be eligible as a class member, you must be a current or past owner or lessee of a specific Volkswagen vehicle distributed by Volkswagen Group of America in the United States or Puerto Rico.

The eligible vehicles include:

  • Certain 2019-2023 Volkswagen Atlas
  • Certain 2019-2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport

Not all vehicles from these model years are covered.

Eligibility is determined by Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs), which can be checked on the official settlement website's VIN lookup tool.

Certain individuals and entities are excluded from the class:

  • Current employees, officers, directors, agents, and representatives of Volkswagen, and their family members
  • Affiliates, parents, or subsidiaries of Volkswagen
  • Used car dealers
  • Those who purchased vehicles for commercial resale
  • Those with salvaged titles or total loss vehicles

How much can class members get?

Class members can receive reimbursement for 100% of the past paid and unreimbursed costs of repair or replacement of a failed front door wiring harness, including associated diagnostic costs, performed prior to October 10, 2024, and within 7 years or 100,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date.

The reimbursement is subject to certain conditions, such as the repair being performed by an authorized Volkswagen dealer or proof that an attempt was made to have the repair performed by one. If the repair was performed between December 22, 2022, and October 10, 2024, claimants must provide a signed declaration stating that they attempted to have the repair done by a Volkswagen dealer but were unable due to unavailability of parts.

Is proof required to submit a claim?

Claimants need to provide proof of the repair and payment:

  • Repair invoice or record showing claimant’s name, vehicle make, model, and VIN
  • Name and address of the repair facility
  • Date and mileage of the repair
  • Description of the repair work and costs
  • Proof of payment

If the repair was not performed by an authorized Volkswagen dealer during the original warranty period, additional documentation or a signed declaration may be required.

How to claim an award

To claim an award, class members must complete and submit a claim form by December 24, 2024. Claims can be filed online through the online claim form or by mailing the completed form to the claims administrator. The claim form is also available in PDF format.

Payment methods

Reimbursements will be mailed to the address provided on the claim form.

Important dates

  • Fairness Hearing: January 15, 2025
  • Deadline to File a Claim: December 24, 2024

When is the Volkswagen Wiring Harness Settlement payout date?

The final approval of the settlement will be determined at the Fairness Hearing on January 15, 2025. If approved, reimbursements will be processed and mailed to eligible class members within 150 days of the claim receipt or the settlement's final approval date, whichever is later.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The class action lawsuit was filed due to claims that the front door wiring harnesses in certain Volkswagen vehicles were defective, potentially leading to malfunctions. Volkswagen has denied these claims but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation.
