If your personal information was compromised in the data breach disclosed by Shoreline Community College on or about April 5, 2023, you may be eligible to submit a claim for a cash payment of up to $7,500 from a class action settlement.

Shoreline Community College has agreed to pay $2.3 million to settle a class action lawsuit for allegedly failing to adequately secure its network, which led to unauthorized access to student and faculty personal information.

Who is eligible for a data breach payout?

The class members include:

  • U.S residents who are current and former students, staff, and faculty of Shoreline Community College.
  • You received notice that your personal information, including Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers, was accessed in the 2023 data breach.

How much can class members get?

Class members can submit for one or more of the following:

  • Reimbursement for Out-of-Pocket Losses: Up to $7,500 for documented financial losses related to identity theft and fraud traceable to the cybersecurity incident.
  • Reimbursement for Lost Time: Up to four hours at $35 per hour, a maximum total of $140, for time spent responding to the data breach.
  • Identity Theft Protection and Credit Monitoring Services: Up to two years of services, regardless of whether you submit a Reimbursement claim.

How to claim a class action settlement payment

To claim a payout, you must complete and submit by the April 14, 2025 claim deadline. You can file a claim online or download and print the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

Required documentation

  • CPT ID and Passcode from settlement notice is required to submit a claim.

  • Reimbursement for Lost Time: Claimants must submit a detailed description of actions taken dealing with the data breach and the amount of time spent.

$2.3 Million data breach settlement fund

The settlement fund of $2,300,000 will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: To be determined
  • Attorneys' fees and expenses: Up to $690,000
  • Service award to the class representative: $5,000
  • Identity theft and credit monitoring services: Cost determined by number of claims
  • Payments to approved claimants: Remaining settlement funds
