R.R. Donnelley Settles Illinois BIPA Lawsuit for $1.7 Million

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company has agreed to pay $1,700,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for alleged violations of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), which prohibits the collection and disclosure of biometric data without proper consent.

Who are the class members?

To qualify as a class member, you must meet the following criteria:

• You worked at any R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company location in Illinois, including Precision Dialogue Direct, Inc.
• You registered for or used a fingertip-scan timekeeping system between August 26, 2017, and January 29, 2024.

How much can class members get?

The estimated payment is approximately $384 per class member after deductions for attorneys' fees, costs, and the plaintiff's incentive award.

The exact amount may vary depending on the total number of valid claims submitted and other expenses paid from the settlement fund.

Calculation Example: If the settlement fund is $1,700,000 and attorneys' fees, costs, and incentive awards total 40% of the fund, then $1,020,000 is available for distribution. If 2,500 valid claims are submitted, each claimant would receive $408. If 3,000 claims are submitted, each would receive $340.

How to claim an award

To claim an award, class members must submit a timely and properly completed claim form postmarked no later than December 10, 2024. Claim forms can be submitted online or by mail.
