If you were a patient of University Hospitals and logged into the UH patient portal or scheduled an appointment through UH’s websites between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2022, you may be eligible to claim $35 from a class action settlement.
University Hospitals has agreed to pay $3,000,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for alleged unauthorized sharing of personal and medical information with third parties through tracking technologies on its websites.
University Hospitals settlement eligibility
To be a class member eligible for this settlement, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a natural person residing in the United States.
- Have been a patient of University Hospitals.
- Logged into the UH patient portal or scheduled an appointment through UH’s websites between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2022.
The class members are those who accessed the FollowMyHealth patient portal or used UH’s websites to schedule an appointment online.
How much are the University Hospitals settlement payouts?
Class members who submit a valid claim form may receive $35.
This amount is subject to pro rata adjustments, meaning if the number of claims exceeds the available funds, each claimant's award may be reduced proportionally. University Hospitals has agreed to pay up to an additional $2,000,000 if the initial $3,000,000 fund is insufficient to cover all claims.
- Initial Settlement Fund: $3,000,000
- Additional Fund (if needed): Up to $2,000,000
For example, if 100,000 valid claims are submitted, the total payout would be $3,500,000. If the initial fund is insufficient, the additional fund will be used to cover the shortfall.
Claiming a payout
Class members must submit a claim form. You can file a claim online or download the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

$3 Million settlement fund
The settlement fund of $3,000,000 will cover:
- Cash payments to class members.
- Attorneys’ fees and expenses.
- A service award to the class representative.
- Claims administration costs.
The net settlement fund is what remains after these expenses are deducted. If the number of claims subjects the settlement amount to proration, the additional $2,000,000 fund will be used.
