If you had a Patreon account and accessed videos on Patreon.com while also having a Facebook account between April 1, 2016, and September 23, 2024, you may be eligible to claim between $35 and $175 from a class action settlement.

Patreon, Inc. has agreed to pay $7,250,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for allegedly disclosing users' identities and video-viewing preferences without consent.

Who can file a claim?

To be eligible for the settlement, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You had a Patreon account and a Facebook account
  • You accessed video content on Patreon.com between April 1, 2016, and September 23, 2024
  • You were located in the United States during this period

If you meet these criteria, you are considered a class member and must submit a claim to receive payment.

How much can class members get?

Class members can expect to receive between $35 and $175, depending on the number of claims submitted.

The settlement fund of $7,250,000 will be distributed among eligible class members. After deductions for administration expenses, attorneys' fees, and service awards, the remaining amount will be divided equally among claimants.

The final amount will be calculated based on a pro rata distribution of the net settlement fund. For example, if the net settlement fund is $5,000,000 and there are 100,000 claimants, each claimant would receive $50.

Is proof required to submit a claim?

Yes, claimants must provide their not need to provide additional proof beyond attesting that they accessed video content on Patreon.com while having a Facebook account. This means you can claim an award by simply confirming that you are a class member.

How to claim an award

To claim an award, class members must submit a claim form online.

You must provide your Facebook profile link and attest _under the penalty of perjury_ that you viewed a video on Patreon.

$7.25 Million settlement fund breakdown

The settlement fund of $7,250,000 will cover various expenses and distributions:

  • Attorneys' fees: Up to 30% of the settlement fund.
  • Service awards: Up to $7,500 for each of the six class representatives.
  • Administrative costs: Deducted from the settlement fund.
  • Remaining funds: Distributed to eligible class members.

When is the Patreon Settlement payout date?

The court will decide whether to approve the settlement at the Final Approval Hearing on February 5, 2025. If approved, payments will be distributed to eligible class members.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The lawsuit alleged that Patreon violated the Video Privacy Protection Act by sharing users' identities and video-viewing preferences with Meta Platforms, Inc. without consent. To avoid the costs and risks of a trial, both parties agreed to settle the lawsuit.
