
If you were notified by Lewis & Clark College that your personal information was potentially compromised in a February 2023 data breach, you may be eligible to submit a claim for up to $5,000 from a class action settlement.
Lewis & Clark College has agreed to pay $500,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for alleged negligence in protecting sensitive personal information during a cyberattack.
Who is eligible for a Lewis & Clark data breach payout?
- Individuals who received a notice from Lewis & Clark College about the data breach.
- Those whose personal data, such as names, Social Security numbers, and financial account numbers, were potentially accessed during the cyberattack.
How much will my settlement payment be?
Class members can submit a claim for the following:
- Expense Reimbursement: Up to $5,000 for documented, unreimbursed out-of-pocket expenses and losses resulting from the data incident
- Includes card replacement fees, late fees, over-limit fees, cost to obtain credit reports or a credit freeze, and more
- Alternative Cash Payment: A cash payment is being offered to claimants that do not wish to submit an Expense Reimbursement claim
- Identity Theft Protection and Credit Monitoring: Two years of credit monitoring services for three bureaus, including identity theft insurance and activity alerts
If the total number of approved claims exceeds the settlement fund, the amounts paid to class members will be prorated.
How to claim a Lewis & Clark College data breach settlement payment
To claim a settlement payout, you must complete and submit a claim form as soon as it becomes available on the settlement website. Claims must be submitted by the May 15, 2025 deadline. You can file a claim online or download the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

Documentation is required for certain claims
- Notice ID required to submit an online claim
- Expense Reimbursement claims require documentation such as receipts for costs incurred, invoices, bank and/or credit card statements
- Alternative Cash Payment claims require no additional documentation.
- A claim must be submitted and Identity Theft and Credit Monitoring Services must be selected in order to receive this two year benefit

$500,000 Settlement fund
The settlement fund of $500,000 will cover various costs associated with the settlement:
- Settlement notice administration costs will be paid by Lewis & Clark College.
- Attorneys' fees of up to $166,667 plus expenses
- Service awards to each of the five class representatives, a total of $10,000
- Payments to class members: Remaining funds after other costs are covered

When is the Lewis & Clark College data breach settlement payout date?
A Final Fairness Hearing is scheduled for June 2, 2025, to decide whether to approve the settlement. If approved, the Claims Administrator will process claims and distributing payments to approved claimants.
Why was there a class action settlement?
The lawsuit was filed due to a cyberattack on Lewis & Clark College's network, which potentially exposed the personal information of approximately 48,799 class members. The settlement allows both parties to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation and a trial.
