If you owned or leased, a Range Rover or Jaguar with an InControl system as of October 20, 2023, you may be eligible to claim benefits from a class action settlement.
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC has agreed to pay $6,000,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for alleged defects in their InControl Touch Pro or InControl Touch Pro Duo infotainment systems. The lawsuit claims that these systems were unreliable, froze, had reduced functionality, failed to start, and were inoperable. The company denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to settle to avoid the cost, delay, and uncertainty of continuing the litigation.
Who Can Claim an Award?
The settlement applies to all persons and entities that, on October 20, 2023, owned or leased a Settlement Class Vehicle registered in the United States. The Settlement Class Vehicles include the following models:
- 2017-2020 Range Rover
- 2017-2020 Range Rover Sport
- 2018-2020 Range Rover Velar
- 2016-2020 Range Rover Evoque
- 2017-2020 Discovery
- 2017-2020 Discovery Sport
- 2018-2020 Jaguar E-Pace
- 2017-2020 Jaguar F-Pace
- 2019-2020 Jaguar I-Pace
- 2018-2020 Jaguar F-Type
- 2017-2020 Jaguar XE
- 2016-2020 Jaguar XF
- 2016-2019 Jaguar XJ
Some vehicles from these model years were not equipped with an InControl System and therefore are not Settlement Class Vehicles covered by the Settlement.
What are the Benefits of the Settlement?
If the Settlement is approved and becomes final, it will provide several benefits to Settlement Class Members. These include:
- A free retrofit/upgrade to the InControl System to enable future software upgrades to be delivered wirelessly
- A one-year extension of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty to cover repairs or replacements of the Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) of the InControl System
- Free software updates for at least two years
- An online resource for information about potential InControl System issues and solutions
- A Retailer Assistance and Assessment Program to enhance service strategies
Field Service Action
Within 60 days of the Effective Date, JLRNA will institute a U.S. field service action that will enable a present owner or lessee of a Settlement Class Vehicle to receive a free retrofit/upgrade to their vehicle’s existing InControl System to enable future InControl System software upgrades to be delivered wirelessly.
Limited Extended Warranty for IMC of the InControl System
JLRNA shall extend by one year its New Vehicle Limited Warranty to cover repairs or replacements of the Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) of the InControl System.
Software Updates
For at least two years after the Effective Date, JLRNA will provide free of charge to Settlement Class Members any available software updates that JLRNA offers for the InControl Systems in Settlement Class Vehicles.
Online Resource
The Settlement Administrator will create and maintain for two years after the Effective Date, a webpage providing information about potential InControl System-related issues and potential solutions, a telephone number for service-related questions, recall notices, Service Bulletins, and Frequently Asked Questions related to the Infotainment Systems in the Settlement Class Vehicles.
Retailer Assistance and Assessment Program
For two years after the Effective Date, JLRNA will utilize pre-existing retailer communication and interface methods to implement a Retailer Assistance and Assessment Program to enhance service strategies.
Is Proof Required to Claim the Reward?
Yes, claimants need to proactively provide proof they are a class member. To claim the reward, claimants must provide proof of ownership or lesseeship of the Class Vehicle(s), including:
- model
- model year
- Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
No Action Required to Claim an Award
No action is required on the part of class members to benefit from the settlement. If the court approves the settlement, class members can automatically receive the benefits.
$6,000,000 Settlement Fund Breakdown
The settlement amount of $6,000,000 includes the cost of the limited warranty extension and the field service action. The estimated value of these benefits is approximately $6 million if a full (100%) take rate is assumed.
The settlement amount will also cover the cost of administering the settlement, including the creation and maintenance of the online resource and the Retailer Assistance and Assessment Program. Additionally, the settlement amount includes the payment of attorneys’ fees and expenses, as well as incentive awards for the Class Representatives.

When will Awards be Paid?
Awards will be paid after the final approval of the settlement and the resolution of any appeals.
