If you own or lease a Model Year 2017-2018 DJ Ram 2500, D2 Ram 3500, DD Ram 3500 Cab Chassis, DF Ram 3500 10K LB. Cab Chassis, DX Ram Cab Chassis, or DP Ram 4500/5500 built between April 1, 2017, and December 29, 2018, you may qualify for a reimbursement from this class action settlement.

FCA US LLC has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit for alleged defects in the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and brake hydraulic control unit (Brake HCU) in certain Ram trucks.

Who qualifies to receive a payment?

  • Current owners or lessees of the following Ram vehicles:
    • DJ Ram 2500
    • D2 Ram 3500
    • DD Ram 3500 Cab Chassis
    • DF Ram 3500 10K LB. Cab Chassis
    • DX Ram Cab Chassis
    • DP Ram 4500/5500
  • Vehicles must have been built between April 1, 2017, and December 29, 2018
  • "Current Owner" is defined as owning or leasing on or after November 1, 2023

Note that consumers or businesses that have purchased Class Vehicles previously deemed a total loss (salvage or junkyard vehicles) are excluded from the settlement.

How much will the Ram Truck settlement payout be?

The total payout for rental vehicle reimbursements is capped at $600,000 and will be distributed on a pro rata basis if claims exceed this amount.

  • Repair Reimbursements: Class members that paid for a repair relating to the replacement of a Brake HCU component can submit a claim for reimbursement.
  • Rental Vehicle Reimbursements: A claim for rental car reimbursement of up to $100 per day, maximum $1,000 per vehicle.
    • Rental reimbursement claims are subject to a $600,000 cap and payments will be reduced on a pro rata basis if claims exceed this
  • Safety Recall: FCA has also instituted a voluntary safety recall, which provides for installation of a new Brake HCU component with a pump motor brush material change, NHTSA Recall No. 24V-896

How to claim a Ram Truck brake defect payment

To claim a settlement payout, class members must submit a claim through FCA US's reimbursement system online. Claimants should select the Recall option.

  • 17 Digit VIN
  • Proof of repair for Brake HCU replacement, including detailed invoice and proof of payment
  • Car rental receipts in addition to proof of repair, if claiming rental vehicle reimbursement

  • Settlement administration costs
  • Attorneys' fees and expenses not to exceed $2,000,000
  • Service awards to representative plaintiffs of $3,000 each

When is the FCA US Settlement payout date?

The Fairness Hearing is scheduled for April 11, 2025. Once the court grants final approval to the settlement, FCA will process claims and issue payments. Appeals may delay the process.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The lawsuit was filed due to alleged defects in the ABS module and Brake HCU of certain Ram trucks, which could lead to the braking system becoming inoperable. The settlement was reached to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation and a possible trial.
