Why is there a class action settlement?
The lawsuit claims that AMC failed to disclose a convenience fee for online tickets to its movie theaters in New York state, allegedly violating ACAL § 25.07(4). AMC conceded it had charged $10,789,345 in convenience fees from 4,666,392 tickets. In total, there were 1,476,486 individual purchasers who were charged the fees.
AMC denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to settle to avoid ongoing litigation costs and uncertainties.
