Google Play $8.25M Children's Privacy Class Action Settlement

Individuals who downloaded or used an app from Google Play while younger than age 13 at any time between April 1, 2015, and the present may be eligible to submit a claim for a cash payment from a class action settlement.

Google LLC and AdMob Google Inc. agreed to pay $8.25 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging they unlawfully collected, used and disclosed personal information from children younger than age 13 who used Google Play apps in violation of privacy rights.

Who can file a claim for a Google Play privacy settlement payout?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They reside in the United States.
  • They were younger than age 13 at any time between April 1, 2015 and the present.
  • While younger than age 13, they downloaded or used an app from Google Play any time between April 1, 2015 and the present.
  • Google or AdMob allegedly collected, used or disclosed their personal information.

How much are settlement payments?

Pro rata cash payment: Class members can submit a claim to receive a pro rata cash payment from the net settlement fund. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the number of valid claims filed.

How to claim a class action rebate

To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator (available soon).

Class members can register online to receive a class member ID. If the class member is younger than age 18 as of May 2026, a parent or legal guardian must submit and sign the claim on their behalf.

The claim deadline is Sept. 14, 2026.

Required claim information

  • All class members must provide their date of birth on the claim form.

  • Electronic payment (available only for online claims)
  • Paper check mailed to the address provided

Settlement fund breakdown

The $8,250,000 settlement fund will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: At least $750,000
  • Attorneys' fees: Up to $2,475,000
  • Attorneys' expenses: To be presented to the court for approval at a later date
  • Service awards to class representatives' guardians: Up to $500 each for three guardians ($1,500 total)
  • Payments to eligible claimants: Remaining settlement funds

  • Opt-out deadline: Aug. 4, 2026
  • Deadline to file a claim: Sept. 14, 2026
  • Final approval hearing: Sept. 24, 2026

When is the Google Play children's privacy settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants after the court resolves any appeals and grants final approval of the settlement.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged Google LLC and AdMob Google Inc. collected, used and disclosed personal information from children younger than age 13 through Google Play apps without parental consent, violating their privacy rights. The plaintiffs claimed the companies used this information for targeted advertising.

The defendants denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the risk and expense of continued litigation and a possible trial.
