About Western Alliance Bank

Western Alliance Bank is a subsidiary of Western Alliance Bancorporation, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Established in 1994, Western Alliance Bancorporation has grown to now managing over $80 billion in assets. The bank is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol WAL.

WAB operates through several regional divisions and brands such as Alliance Bank of Arizona, Bank of Nevada, Bridge Bank, First Independent Bank, Torrey Pines Bank, and Alliance Association Bank. Additionally, Western Alliance Bank owns AmeriHome Mortgage, a mortgage loan company, expanding its financial services portfolio.

What was the October 2024 Data Breach?

In October 2024, Western Alliance Bank experienced a significant data breach after a third-party vendor's secure file transfer software was compromised. An unauthorized actor exploited a previously unknown vulnerability in the vendor's software, gaining access to a limited portion of Western Alliance Bank's systems. This breach allowed the unauthorized actor to obtain copies of sensitive files from the bank's systems between October 12, 2024, and October 24, 2024.

Western Alliance Bank became aware of the breach on January 27, 2025. After conducting an investigation, the bank confirmed on February 21, 2025, that the compromised files contained personal information belonging to customers.

Information exposed:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Financial account number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Tax identification number
  • Passport information (if previously provided to Western Alliance Bank)

Western Alliance Bank has notified law enforcement and has offered affected customers complimentary one-year memberships to Experian IdentityWorksSM Credit 3B credit monitoring services.

Your Rights and Next Steps

If your personal information was involved in the Western Alliance Bank data breach, you have important rights and options available to protect yourself from potential identity theft or fraud:

Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly check your bank and credit card statements for any suspicious or unauthorized activities. Report any unusual transactions immediately to your financial institution.

Request Your Free Credit Reports: You are entitled by law to one free credit report per year from each of the three major credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion).

Place a Fraud Alert: You can place a free fraud alert on your credit files by contacting any one of the three major credit bureaus. A fraud alert notifies creditors to verify your identity before opening new accounts in your name.

Consider a Credit Freeze: You have the right to place a credit freeze on your credit reports, which restricts access to your credit information. This makes it harder for identity thieves to open new accounts in your name.

Activate Credit Monitoring: If you received a notification letter from Western Alliance Bank, activate your complimentary one-year membership of Experian IdentityWorksSM Credit 3B using the instructions provided in your notification letter.
