What Happened?

In November 2024, SRP Federal Credit Union discovered a data breach that potentially exposed the personal information of approximately 240,742 individuals in the United States. The breach was detected on November 22, 2024, after suspicious activity was noticed on their computer network.

An unauthorized third party accessed the systems between September 5, 2024, and November 4, 2024, and potentially acquired certain files.

The types of consumer information exposed include:

  • Name of individual
  • Social Security Number Information
  • Driver’s License number
  • Financial Information (e.g., account number, credit or debit card number)
  • Date of Birth

The breach was disclosed to the Maine and Texas Attorney General's offices on December 13, 2024. SRP FCU notified affected consumers by U.S. Mail on December 12, 2024, offering a complimentary one-year membership of Experian IdentityWorksSM Credit 3B as a precautionary measure.

Nitrogen Ransomware Attack

On December 5, 2024, a ransomware group that goes by the name of Nitrogen had claimed to have obtained access to 650 GB of the company’s database. Data including full names, social security numbers, and other data were posted on the dark web to prove the authenticity of the ransomware group’s claims.
