Your Rights and Next Steps

If you were notified that your information was involved in this breach, you have important rights and options. First, it is crucial to remain vigilant by monitoring your account statements and credit reports for any suspicious activity. You can obtain a free copy of your credit report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies once every 12 months.

You may also consider placing a fraud alert or security freeze on your credit file to help prevent identity theft. A fraud alert is free and notifies creditors to take extra steps when verifying your identity. A security freeze restricts access to your credit report, making it harder for identity thieves to open new accounts in your name.

If you notice any unusual or unauthorized activity, report it immediately to your financial institution, law enforcement, your state attorney general, or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). You have additional rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), including the ability to dispute incomplete or inaccurate information on your credit report.
