Your Rights and Next Steps
If you were affected by the Hertz data breach, you have several important rights and options available to protect yourself and your personal information.
First, you can enroll in the free identity monitoring services offered by Hertz through Kroll.
Additionally, you should consider taking the following proactive steps:
- Regularly review your financial statements and credit reports for suspicious or unauthorized activity.
- Request a free annual credit report from each of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion).
- Place a fraud alert on your credit file by contacting any one of the three major credit reporting agencies. A fraud alert requires businesses to verify your identity before issuing credit in your name.
- Consider placing a credit freeze (also known as a security freeze) on your credit reports. A credit freeze prevents new creditors from accessing your credit information without your explicit authorization, helping to prevent identity theft.
