What was the February 2025 Ransomware Attack?

On February 3, 2025, Alpha Medical Centre experienced a ransomware cyberattack conducted by a hacking group known as RansomHub. The attackers claimed to have stolen approximately 6 GB of the organization's data and threatened to publish it within 13-14 days. RansomHub provided sample screenshots of the stolen data on their dark web portal.

Upon discovering the breach, Alpha Medical Centre immediately began an investigation, engaging external cybersecurity experts to assess the incident.

Not all affected individuals had every type of information compromised. Alpha Medical Centre has stated that, as of now, it is not aware of any identity theft or financial fraud incidents resulting from the breach.

Your Rights and Next Steps

If your personal information was exposed in this data breach, you have important rights and options available to protect yourself against potential identity theft or fraud.

First, consider placing a fraud alert on your credit files. A fraud alert informs creditors to contact you directly before opening new accounts in your name. You can place a fraud alert by contacting any of the three major credit bureaus.

You may also want to place a security freeze on your credit files. A security freeze restricts access to your credit report, making it harder for identity thieves to open new accounts in your name. You can request a security freeze from the same three credit bureaus listed above.

Additionally, you are entitled to a free credit report every 12 months from each of the three major credit bureaus.

To protect your medical information, carefully review your explanation of benefits statements from your health insurance provider. Contact your insurance company or healthcare provider if you notice any unfamiliar charges or treatments.
