Sabre GLBL Inc., a major software and technology company serving the global travel industry, experienced a significant data breach. On September 6, 2023, Sabre discovered that an unauthorized third party had accessed and compromised sensitive employee-related information.

The breach occurred on July 4, 2022, but the full extent of the incident was not determined until a detailed investigation was completed.

The breach exposed the personal information of 29,590 individuals in the United States. Among those affected, 15,233 were residents of Texas, 290 were from Massachusetts, and 24 were from Maine.

The stolen data included highly sensitive information, which in some cases was posted on the dark web in a series of leaks concluding in October 2023.

The following types of personal information were compromised in the breach:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Government-issued ID number (e.g., passport, state ID card)
  • Financial account information (e.g., credit or debit card number)
  • Date of birth
  • Employment-related information
  • Signature
  • Client lists
  • Financial data
  • Employee records with Social Security numbers

The breach was disclosed to state authorities, including the Maine Attorney General’s Office on December 9, 2024, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and the California Attorney General’s Office on December 10, 2024, and the Texas Attorney General’s Office received the disclosure on December 11, 2024.

Sabre GLBL's response

Upon discovering the breach, Sabre immediately activated its incident response protocols to contain the situation. The company engaged legal counsel and partnered with a third-party forensic firm to investigate the breach and mitigate its impact. Sabre also notified law enforcement and regulatory authorities about the incident.

As part of its response, Sabre is offering affected individuals complimentary access to Experian IdentityWorks for 24 months. This service includes credit monitoring, identity restoration assistance, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance.

The company has provided detailed instructions to affected individuals for enrolling in these services.

If you are affected by the data breach

If you received a notification from Sabre about this data breach, it is essential to take immediate steps to protect yourself.
Due to the sensitive nature of the information exposed, including Social Security numbers and financial account details, you should consider the following actions:

  1. Enroll in the free credit monitoring service provided by Sabre through Experian IdentityWorks. This will help you monitor your credit report for any suspicious activity.
  2. Place a fraud alert on your credit file by contacting one of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion). A fraud alert will notify creditors to verify your identity before opening new accounts.
  3. Consider freezing your credit to prevent unauthorized access to your credit file. A credit freeze is a stronger measure that stops new credit accounts from being opened in your name without your consent.
  4. Monitor your financial accounts closely for any unauthorized transactions. Report any suspicious activity to your bank or credit card issuer immediately.
  5. Obtain your free credit reports from AnnualCreditReport.com to review your credit history for inaccuracies or unfamiliar accounts.
  6. Be cautious of phishing attempts. Scammers may use stolen information to impersonate Sabre or other organizations to trick you into revealing more personal data.

For additional guidance, refer to the resources provided in Sabre’s notification letter or contact Experian’s customer care team for assistance.
