Project Consulting Services Inc., a Louisiana-based engineering and consulting firm in the oil and energy industry, disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to its computer systems in February 2026. The total number of individuals affected across the United States has not been disclosed, although 419 Texas residents were identified as impacted.

On Feb. 26, 2026, Project Consulting Services identified suspicious activity on certain computer systems, according to the company's notification to consumers. The company secured its systems and launched an investigation into the nature and scope of the activity.

Through that investigation, the company determined that an unknown actor gained access to certain computer systems between Feb. 25, 2026, and Feb. 26, 2026. During that time, files were copied and potentially viewed by the unauthorized party.

On March 2, 2026, a ransomware group known as Play claimed responsibility for the attack on a dark web forum. The group stated it had obtained the organization's data, which reportedly included private and personal confidential data, client documents, budget information, payroll records, IDs, tax information and financial data.

After discovering the unauthorized access, the company began a review to determine the precise nature of the information that was affected. The review confirmed that the breach exposed sensitive personal and health information including names, Social Security numbers driver's license numbers, financial account information, medical information and health insurance information.

The breach was disclosed to the New Hampshire Attorney General and to the Vermont Attorney General. The company began notifying affected individuals on or about June 9, 2026.
