On May 7, 2024, Liaison International LLC identified suspicious activity in their systems, which was later confirmed to be a data breach. Liaison International LLC, a company that aids higher education institutions in recruiting and enrolling students, experienced unauthorized access to their data. The breach was discovered when the company noticed unusual activity linked to an unauthorized actor.

Upon investigation, it was found that the unauthorized activity affected a limited amount of data, potentially including personal information. The types of information that may have been impacted include:

  • Name
  • Social Security Number

The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Attorney General's office.

Liaison International's Response

In response to the breach, Liaison International LLC took immediate actions to address and contain the situation. They engaged leading data security and privacy teams, notified federal law enforcement, and implemented several measures, including:

  • Taking systems offline
  • Changing passwords
  • Identifying and isolating affected accounts
  • Conducting thorough scans of their network

Additionally, Liaison has implemented further security protocols to enhance the protection of their network, email environment, and systems. They are currently assessing their entire information security program to prevent future incidents.

  1. Enroll in Credit Monitoring Services: Liaison International is offering complimentary access to Experian IdentityWorksSM for 24 months. To activate your membership, visit Experian IdentityWorks and use the provided activation code. Be sure to enroll by September 30, 2024.
  2. Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly review your account statements and credit reports for any suspicious activity. You can obtain a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide credit reporting agencies by visiting Annual Credit Report or calling 1-877-322-8228.
  3. Place Fraud Alerts or Security Freezes: Consider placing a fraud alert or a security freeze on your credit report to prevent unauthorized access. You can contact Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion to set these up.
  4. Report Suspicious Activity: If you notice any unauthorized transactions or suspect identity theft, report it immediately to your financial institutions and local law enforcement.
  5. Stay Informed: Keep an eye on communications from Liaison International LLC for any updates regarding the breach and additional steps you may need to take.
