The staffing and recruiting company, Express Employment Professionals, recently disclosed a significant data breach affecting thousands of individuals and has raised concerns among those potentially impacted.

The data breach at the company, formally known ans Express Services, Inc., involved unauthorized access to an email account, which resulted in the exposure of sensitive personal information. The breach was discovered after suspicious activity was identified within the email system. A thorough investigation was conducted to determine the scope of the breach and identify the individuals affected.

According to the information disclosed to the Texas Attorney General's office, 5,941 individuals in Texas were affected. Additionally, the Massachusetts Attorney General's office reported that 6 individuals in Massachusetts were impacted. The exposed information includes:

  • Social Security Numbers
  • Names
  • Driver’s License numbers
  • Financial Information (e.g., account numbers, credit or debit card numbers)
  • Medical Information
  • Health Insurance Information

The breach's severity is underscored by the variety of sensitive data exposed, which could potentially lead to identity theft and financial fraud.

In response to the breach, Express Employment Professionals has taken several steps to mitigate the impact on affected individuals. The company has offered 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services through Experian. This service includes identity restoration support, fraud detection tools, and $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Affected individuals have been notified via U.S. Mail and provided with instructions on how to enroll in these protective services.

If you have been notified that your information was part of this data breach, it is crucial to take immediate action to protect yourself. Here are some recommended steps:

  1. Enroll in Credit Monitoring: Take advantage of the complimentary Experian IdentityWorks service offered by Express Services, Inc. This will help you monitor your credit report and detect any unusual activity.
  2. Review Your Credit Reports: Obtain your free annual credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion by visiting AnnualCreditReport.com. Check for any unauthorized accounts or transactions.
  3. Consider a Credit Freeze: Placing a credit freeze on your files can prevent new credit accounts from being opened in your name without your consent. Contact each of the major credit bureaus to initiate a freeze.
  4. Stay Vigilant: Regularly review your financial statements and be on the lookout for any suspicious activity. Report any signs of identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission and local law enforcement.
