CannonDesign Data Breach Affects 13,049 Individuals, Exposing Social Security Numbers

On January 25, 2023, The Cannon Corporation, operating as CannonDesign, detected suspicious activity within its computer network. This prompted an immediate investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident.

An investigation revealed that an unauthorized third party had accessed certain parts of the company's network between January 19, 2023, and January 25, 2023. The company concluded its review of the impacted information on May 3, 2024.

In total, 13,049 individuals across the United States were affected by this breach, with 18 of those individuals residing in Maine.

The compromised data includes sensitive personal information such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. This breach was significant due to the type of information exposed, which could potentially lead to identity theft or fraud if misused.

Upon discovering the breach, CannonDesign took action to secure its network and minimize operational disruptions. The company notified federal law enforcement and is implementing additional security measures and employee training to prevent future incidents.

Affected individuals have been offered 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services through Experian to help protect against identity theft. Additionally, the company is providing guidance on placing fraud alerts and security freezes on credit files.
