If you paid a fee to make a homeowner’s association or condominium association dues or assessment payment using the TownSq app between February 14, 2020, and July 3, 2024, you may be eligible to claim a portion of a class action settlement.

Small Community Specialists, L.L.C., Associations, Inc., and HOAM Ventures, Inc. have agreed to pay $600,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for allegedly charging consumers convenience fees in violation of the Maryland Consumer Debt Collection Act and the Maryland Consumer Protection Act.

Who are the class members?

Those who:

  • Paid a fee to the Defendants for making a homeowners association or condominium association dues or assessment payment using the TownSq app.
  • Made such payments between February 14, 2020, and July 3, 2024.

How much can class members get?

Class members are entitled to a minimum payment of $2.95 if they paid at least one convenience fee. The remaining funds from the settlement will be distributed on a pro rata basis, depending on the amount of fees each member paid during the settlement period.

Class members do not need to take any action to receive their compensation. Payments will be automatically distributed to eligible members.

  • Final Approval Hearing: December 10, 2024

When is the TownSq App payout date?

The Court will hold a Final Fairness Hearing on December 10, 2024, to decide whether to approve the settlement. If approved, payments will be distributed to class members after all appeals are complete..
