Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit for alleged failures of the Belt Starter Generator (BSG) in certain Audi vehicles.

Who Can Claim an Award?

To be eligible, you must have owned or leased one of the specified Audi models and have incurred expenses related to the BSG failure before July 11, 2024.

What Awards Can Class Members Claim?

The settlement provides several benefits for eligible class members including extended warranties and reimbursements.

First, VWGoA will extend the New Vehicle Limited Warranties (NVLWs) applicable to the Settlement Class Vehicles to cover the cost of repair or replacement of a failed BSG during a period of ten years from the vehicle's In-Service Date. This extension also covers the cost to recharge or replace the vehicle's 12-volt and/or 48-volt battery if the need for said recharge or replacement was directly caused by a BSG failure.

  • Warranty Extension: Effective on July 11, 2024, covering BSG repair or replacement for ten years from the vehicle's In-Service Date
  • Battery Recharge or Replacement: Coverage for the cost to recharge or replace the 12-volt and/or 48-volt battery if directly caused by a BSG failure

Additionally, class members can claim reimbursement for certain past paid and unreimbursed out-of-pocket expenses related to the BSG failure, including:

  • Repair or Replacement of a Failed BSG: Reimbursement of the paid invoice amount for parts, labor, and taxes, limited to two repairs per vehicle
  • Battery Recharge or Replacement: Reimbursement for the cost to recharge or replace the 12-volt and/or 48-volt battery if directly caused by a BSG failure
  • Alternative Transportation: Reimbursement for rental car or other alternative transportation costs incurred while the vehicle was undergoing a BSG repair, up to $110 per day
  • Towing Expenses: Reimbursement for towing expenses incurred to transport the vehicle to a repair facility for a BSG repair, up to $995 per tow

Is Proof Required to Claim the Reward?

Yes, proof is required to claim the reward. Claimants must provide documentation to support their claims, including repair invoices, receipts, and proof of payment. Specific documentation requirements include:

  • Repair or Replacement of a Failed BSG: Legible copies of repair invoices or other documentation showing the repair details, costs, and proof of payment
  • Battery Recharge or Replacement: Documentation indicating that the need for recharge or replacement was directly caused by BSG failure, along with proof of payment
  • Alternative Transportation: Invoices and receipts showing the dates and costs of alternative transportation, along with a sworn declaration
  • Towing Expenses: Invoices and receipts showing the towing details, costs, and proof of payment

When is the Payout?

If your claim is approved, your reimbursement will be mailed to you within 100 days of either the date of receipt of the completed Claim Form or the date that the Settlement becomes final, whichever is later.
